2026 Queensland Family & Child Commission Youth Summit

The Foundation’s newly-appointed Youth Ambassador Elise Bell has spoken at this year’s Queensland Family & Child Commission Youth Summit.

Elise was presenting as part of the Material Basics session, focused on ensuring children and families have access to essentials such as housing, food, clothing and financial security to support wellbeing. 

Elise spoke beautifully, bringing a powerful lived-experience perspective, particularly around navigating her final exams without access to material basics. 

She shared the realities young people can face while still showing up to school, taking on leadership roles and working towards their future, often without access to stable housing, consistent food or basic hygiene.

Her story is a powerful reminder that many young people are navigating challenges we don’t always see — and why safe housing, support and connection are so important.

“Young people are telling us what they need. Safe, secure and affordable housing is essential to their well-being, education, and future.”

The session also referenced organisations like Share the Dignity and Orange Sky, highlighting the real-world impact of access to essentials such as sanitary products and washing facilities.

The Foundation is very proud of seeing Elise stepping into her voice and representing young people in these important conversations. 

Her presentation resonated strongly with the audience and has already opened up further conversations and opportunities for her to continue this important dialogue on behalf of young people needing a voice.
