What are mentors?

Mentors are the heart and soul of our programs at Inspiring Brighter Futures. They play a vital role in helping us achieve our mission to support individuals in our community as they move their lives onward and upward.

Through trust, respect, and genuine connection, mentors ensure the success of every program. They actively support participants by helping them:

  • Create a personal vision statement
  • Set and achieve meaningful goals
  • Discover their self-worth
  • Plan for a brighter, more fulfilling future

Who are our mentors?

Our mentors come from diverse backgrounds and bring a wide range of life experiences to the table. What they all have in common is their kindness, patience, friendliness, and nurturing nature. They’re open to creating an environment where participants feel valued, supported, and inspired – often for the very first time.

As a mentor, you’ll form new friendships, share life experiences, and leave a lasting impact on someone’s journey. Participants walk away feeling safe, supported, and ready to embrace a brighter future, thanks to the guidance of their mentor.

I wish I had a program like this when I was a kid. It probably would’ve helped to keep me out of some of the trouble I got myself into. That’s what drew me in – meeting kids who I see my old self in.

You find yourself becoming a bit of a pseudo-parent. We all face challenges, and some of these kids come from disadvantaged backgrounds, so it’s worth showing them opportunities and different ways of doing things so they can lead productive lives. We don’t judge.

I have realised that whilst the program is great for the mentees, it is really great for the mentors as well. My life is better for doing this
