Luke Rowlinson has been involved with Inspiring Brighter Futures’ Onwards & Upwards program for many years. After joining the team as a board member in 2015, Luke transitioned into a facilitator role in 2018 – and it all stems from his passion to achieving goals while making the planet a better place.
“There’s a lot to love about the opportunity to contribute to someone,” Luke said.
With a background in architecture working for some of the world’s most prominent firms, Luke credits his success to meeting people who wanted to give him a hand up, mentoring him, often at the cost of their own time.
“For me, being involved in IBFF’s Onwards & Upwards program is a way to give back and it also reminds me of how grateful I am. I always leave mentoring sessions with more energy and inspiration than when I arrived.”
While Luke now runs his own architecture practice, he remains busy in philanthropy and is the co-founder of Creating Positive Futures – a social impact enterprise that skills people by mentoring and training through construction.
Creating Positive Futures recently worked in partnership with: IBFF, Department of Communities, Housing and Digital Economy, Department of Energy and Public Works, Lendlease Future Steps program and yourtown to facilitate the construction of two homes by a group of dedicated participants; 15 of which partook in the Onwards & Upwards program.
“Young people have complex challenges in today’s fast-paced world. Change is a constant and those less fortune must be diligent,” Luke said.
“It’s wonderful to assist someone in need – to build their trust, grow their hope and help them on their way to realising their goals and dreams.”
Luke himself is no stranger to goals. Having set a goal with his wife to have financial independence before 2010, they learnt many lessons along the way. Now, Luke says the greatest lesson is that you should always reset your goals.
“Life is most lived in the pursuit of worthwhile goals,” he said.
