Nathan Flynn – A Story of Breaking Free

2 min read

Nathan Flynn is an example of the power of mentoring in being able to turn his life around and making a better future for himself and his family.

Once, going down a dark path and becoming involved with criminal gangs and a life of crime, he knew that wasn’t the real person he was, or wanted to be, and saw a better pathway for himself through accepting the help of others.

After completing the Onwards& Upwards wellbeing mentoring program, Nathan has rebuilt his life and followed his dream to run his own business, which he is now doing in the fire detection and suppression industry. He has benefited from the advice, guidance, and friendship of a successful Queensland real estate industry leader who continued to mentor him after he completed the wellbeing mentoring program.

Mentoring is a core component of the programs run by the Inspiring Brighter Futures Foundation.

The Foundation’s purpose is to mentor, support, and inspire people in local communities to move their lives Onwards & Upwards. The Foundation works to inspire participants to imagine, plan, and achieve a more satisfying, balanced, and brighter future.

Flynn has presented to a number of groups including offenders and young people and seeks to inspire them to overcome setbacks.

“My message is one of imploring them to change the course of their life and learn from the mistakes of others,” he said.

“I am passionate about sharing my journey and teaching resiliency and the benefits of surrounding yourself with the right role models.

“Goal setting is so important and having people to check in with you to see how you are going.”

Flynn has gone on to completely alter the course of his life and apart from starting his own small business has also been married and started a family.

“There are many temptations to fall to,” he said. “But anyone can own their mistakes and change their course – and learning from mentors can be powerful.”
